Now this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not set you ablaze.…
Last Spring, I purchased a plant and placed it in an area where the rain would water it. Over time, the plant outgrew it's pot. Then a season of drought came. Stressed and desperate, the roots climbed over the pot’s edge venturing out in search of refreshment and nutrients. I uprooted and repotted its withered structure into fresh, fertile soil and saturated its thirsty roots with cool, refreshing water. Sometimes we experience life like my plant — parched, roots exposed, and searching for something that will give us what we need. At times, life is challenging because of circumstances we can’t control. At other times, it’s difficult because we have decidedly turned from the rich abundance God offers in search of something else.
The beauty of God’s promises of redemption and restoration lie in how Jesus rescues us from our despondent state. He puts us in a pleasant place; in a thriving relationship with Him. He rescues and sets us in the best environment for growth and refreshment. What’s so exceptional about the promise of restoration is that Christ offers us comfort in our suffering (self-inflicted or otherwise) and promises His presence to see us through.
Father, I praise you because of your goodness and faithfulness! Thank you for the promises you have given me in Christ Jesus. Thank you that in Him, I can experience true redemption and restoration because I belong to you. I praise you because you created me and know what I need better than I do. Whether my circumstances change or not, you are good, and you will faithfully refresh and restore me. Thank you for your goodness and grace. Satisfy my heart as I humbly trust your faithful promises.
Amen.
