“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me, and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
Did you know Jesus prayed for you? Over 2000 years ago our Lord and Savior set aside in His time to meet with the Father to intercede on your behalf? We see this happen in John 17. As we wrap up this first week of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, I think it's important for us to take some time and reflect on this.
Everything Jesus modeled in His prayer life, everything that was a byproduct of His relationship with the Father, He asked that God grant those same things to you. He prayed that you would know the love of the Father the same way that he knows the love of the father. And in that love that you would experience the dependency upon God, the authority that comes from the Spirit, the boldness that comes from the Father, the submission to the will of God that you would minister to people.
You see, Jesus doesn't just display behaviors that Christ-followers should exude, but He invites us to partake and what He's already prayed for on our behalf. So even as we struggle with everything that we've talked about this week, our Lord and Savior, while He was still on Earth prayed that we would walk in these things.
All of this is not because He's a taskmaster, but He knows that the fullness of life that He's called us to because of the sacrifice on the Cross can only be found as we lean upon the Father the same way that He did.
Take time today to thank Jesus for how He prayed for you. Ask His Spirit to bring alive the very things He modeled within you.
Lord, we confess that we need you. We confess all the times that we've messed up or struggled. We confess the times where we haven't made time for you. But God, we give thanks that even though we do all of that, and you knew that would happen, you still sent Jesus to die in our place. You sent Jesus to intercede on our behalf so that we would experience everything that He did through the power of your Spirit. So, we ask, Lord, would you bring alive within our prayers what Jesus modeled. Just as he prayed for us, as we lean more on you, would you bring alive the truth of how much you love and care for your children. Amen.
Today pray for the nation of Haiti. We know God has the power and authority to do all things. Pray for an awakening of God's people in the country of Haiti. Pray for peace and unity in the nation of Haiti.
