The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
As we look at the promises of scripture this week, I think we need to take some time and look at the promise that all things will be worked out for the good of those in Christ Jesus. This might be a challenging idea for many of us to wrestle with, but I want us to rest in that truth for this moment.
This promise does not mean there will be no trouble. Nor does it mean you will be flush with cash. In John 16:33, Jesus makes it clear that you, yes even you, will endure troubles and trials in this world, but Jesus has overcome them.
This promise means that even when you walk through the valley when you are in a season of need or don’t know what’s going to happen next, you can rest in the assurance that the One who saved you is the One who will fight for you. He is the God who takes situations of distress and turns them into seasons of hope. He is the God who takes what was vandalized by sin and restores it with the power of redemption.
The Lord is for His children! Rest in His promises. Remember that God made these promises to you before you even realized who He was. Let His promise to work for your good bring life into your heart!
Father, thank you for the promises you have made available to me because of Jesus. Thank you for the hope we have in the Cross. Jesus, we praise you that because of your death and resurrection, all of the promises are answered, “yes” in you. Father, remind me of how you have worked for me good in the past. Incline my heart to hope in how you will work for my future. Father, soften my heart to your promises. Today I pray what David wrote in Psalm 37, that though I may stumble, you hold me. Though my situation is challenging right now, you are still working for my good and your glory!
