What is Fasting?

Sacrificing, or fasting, helps you to clearly focus on God. The means for 21 days you will give up something from your everyday life that occupies your time in order to free you to spend that time with God. It should be something meaningful to you.

Here are a few examples:

Electronics

1. Television/Video Games/Social Media/YouTube.If you spend a majority of your time in this area, consider removing this distraction and focus on spending time with God.

Weekends & Nights Out/The Lunch Hour

1. If you love to spend most of your time being social and around people, maybe consider spending that time alone with God. Bring your lunch to work and use the rest of your hour reading your Bible or in prayer.

Fasting from Food

1. Complete Fast: In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

2. Daniel Fast: In this type of fast you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

3. Partial Fast: This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” because in scripture the Jewish people would often not eat from “sun up to sun down,” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon.

Whatever you choose to sacrifice or fast from, it should be meaningful to you. Stretch yourself. If you end up messing up, don't give up! We would rather you try and fail than never try at all. Spend time in prayer asking God to reveal what needs to go from your life during these 21 days!
