Rhythms • Part 1

Watch the Message

In the midst of our busy lives with its unending demands for our time and attention, we need rhythm--life-giving patterns in our days and weeks that deepen our connection with God and strengthen our relationships with others. In Jesus Christ, we have access to a new way to live in the world around us. We have the authority, power, and strength to live in freedom, freedom from the power of sin, and to find rest and life in Christ. This week we will press in to see if we can find the unforced rhythms of grace that Jesus has for us.

  1. Can you share a time when you felt completely overwhelmed by the demands of life?
  2. Read Matthew 11:28-30. In the Message translation, Jesus said that he wants us to "learn the unforced rhythms of grace." How does Jesus describe our walking with him?
  3. Why do you think Jesus is concerned about whether we are burdened by the demands of life?
  4. Read Galatians 5:1. What do you suppose Paul is referring to here when he says, "Do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery."?
  5. Read Galatians 5:22-23. The fruit of the Spirit grows in our life as we allow the Spirit to work by following him in leading us to a deeper intimacy with God. Which, if any of the fruits of the Spirit for our enrichment only?
  6. Read Galatians 6:1. Often when we read this verse, we think of ourselves restoring the other person. Turn it around. How valuable is it to have others in your life to gently restore you? Can you share a time when someone spoke into your life to gently restore you?
  7. Read Galatian 6:3-5. Pastor James said that we need to carry our own load but that we should have community around us to help us carry our burdens. What is the difference between a load and a burden?
  8. Pastor James said, "God gives strength to carry the weight of life through the rhythm of community." Share a time when your faith grew because of the encouragement of your group.
  9. Read Hebrews 10:24-25. Having people in your life to help carry your burdens is a big reason why we are so excited about Life Groups here at the Journey.

We need people to confide in.

We need people to speak faith into our lives.

We need people to give clarity.

Share a time when someone helped you in one of these three areas.

    10. How can you and your group encourage others to take a step to join a Life Group? Is there someone you know of that you can invite to be a part of your group?
