40 Days Discussion Questions: Week 2

The Hustle for MORE

Chasing after more—whether money, possessions, or success—often leaves us feeling anxious and unfulfilled. The endless pursuit never truly satisfies and can distract us from what really matters. This week, we’ll examine how this relentless hustle can take over our lives and how Jesus offers a different way—one rooted in trust, security, and true contentment in Him.

Memory Verse for Week 2: “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all -how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:31-32

Try using this Bible verse memorization tool. Each letter in the following line is the first letter of the memory verse.

IGIFU, WCBAU? HWDNSHOS, BGHUFUA-HWHNA, AWH, GGUAT? R 8:31-32

Dig a little deeper into the memory verse. Ask yourself the following three questions. Discuss your answers with your group:

What?: (What is this verse saying?) Here’s a possible answer: “If God is for us, no opposition can defeat us, and since He has already given us His Son, we can trust Him to provide everything we need.”

So What?: (What does it mean to me?) Here’s a possible answer: “God's love and power surpass all challenges, and since He gave His Son for us, we can trust Him to provide and care for us completely.”

Now What?: (To apply this verse, I must) Here’s a possible answer: “I must live with faith and gratitude, remembering that God has already given me the greatest gift—Jesus Christ.

1. Having a proper heart attitude toward God begins with gratitude. What are you thankful for today? Spend a moment as a group and have everyone share one or two things they appreciate.

2. What areas of your life make you struggle with the feeling of “not enough”? How does this mindset impact your daily peace and contentment?

3. Read Luke 12:15. Jesus warns against greed and says, "life does not consist in an abundance of possessions." How does our culture today promote the opposite message?

4. The rich man in Luke 12:16-20 had more than enough but still wanted more. What are some modern-day examples of this mindset, and how can we avoid falling into this trap?

5. Read Luke 12:21. God is the treasure we seek. In Him, we find our security, value, and joy. This is what it means to be rich toward God. How can we shift our focus from material wealth to spiritual wealth?

6. Read Luke 12:22-24. Jesus reminds us not to worry because God provides. Why is it so difficult to trust in God’s provision, and what steps can we take to grow in this trust?

7. Read Luke 12:29-31. Jesus said we should “seek first the kingdom of God” rather than running after material things. Understanding this can change your life (see also Matthew 6:33). What does it look like to put God first in our lives?

8. Gratitude is a deep appreciation and thankfulness toward God, recognizing His blessings, provision, and faithfulness, regardless of circumstances. What are some practical ways we can develop a heart of gratitude instead of always seeking “more”?

9. Pastor James said, “Gratitude is the antidote to the hustle for more.” Share a time when gratitude helped you overcome feelings of discontentment.

10. Read Romans 8:31-32. If God has given us His Son, we can trust Him to provide for all our needs. How does this truth challenge the way we think about our worries?

11. Jesus calls us to release what’s in our hands to God. What is something you may be holding onto too tightly? How can surrendering it to God bring greater peace?

12. What daily habits or practices can we adopt to remind ourselves that God is our provider, not our possessions or success?

Last Words

If you want to break free from the hustle for more, you have to learn how to rejoice in what you already have. Our hope for the future is fueled by our faith in God. This faith is nurtured through a heart filled with gratitude for all God has provided. Pray that God will reveal what He wants you to do with everything He has already given.

• Easter is just around the corner. Who do you plan to share an invite card with?

Would you consider serving at one of our Easter services? We will have many first-time visitors on campus, and we want everyone to feel at home. If you would like to help, please scan the QR code below and complete the Volunteer Interest Form. You would not be committing to a team (although you might fall in love with it!); we simply want to discuss where you could help out. Guest Experience and Journey Kids are where we will have the greatest need on Easter Weekend.
