We need to Talk…You need some help.
Proverbs 24:3–6
2024 Groups Message
No matter if you're single, married, divorced, from a happy family, split family, or don’t talk to your family, God wants you to have successful, thriving relationships. Your past relational experiences have a tremendous effect on your future relational experiences. This week, we will discuss how your community can help you deal with some of the baggage you carry from your past.
1. What stood out to you in this week’s message?
2. Pastor James shared some plans for our new DeLand location. How will having their own area for ministry help the Journey Kids ministry in DeLand?
3. Read Exodus 20:5. This passage discusses generational sins. What steps can we take to break negative generational patterns in our families? Can you share an example of a time when you or someone you know has successfully done this?
4. How do you think your past family experiences have shaped your expectations and behavior in current relationships? Can you identify specific ways these influences manifest?
5. Read Proverbs 13:20 and Proverbs 12:15. There is value in seeking advice from wise people. Who do you turn to for wisdom in your relationships, and how has their guidance helped you?
6. Proverbs 24:3-6 (Read it) mentions the importance of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. How can we practically incorporate these elements into building healthier relationships within our families?
7. Without a foundation in God, the cycles of dysfunction continue. Two broken people come together and have children, and those children often repeat the same dysfunctional patterns. Is there anything you wouldn’t do to break some of these generational issues so that your children won’t have to deal with them?
8. Read Hebrews 3:12-13. Also, read John 10:10. These verses have some significant warnings. How can encouragement from others help us resist temptation, protect us from the enemy, and help us to walk in the fullness of life that God wants for us?
9. The enemy's native tongue is a lie? How many of them do we believe? How many lies do we accept, and we let them take root in our hearts, and then they grow into things that stop us from reaching purpose and destiny and flourishing in relationships? Can you share examples from your own life?
10. Pastor James said, ”One of the profound truths of the human condition is that we often remain blind to our own dysfunctions.” Can you share a time when someone pointed out something you were oblivious to, and how did it help you grow?
11. Having people in your life to help sort through your baggage is a big reason why we are so excited about Life Groups here at Journey Church.
- We need people to confide in
- We need people to speak faith in our lives.
- We need people to give clarity.
Share a time when someone helped you in one of these three areas.
12. Who do you know that you can encourage to join a group? GroupLink registration will remain open until August 25, 2024.
