Christmas Eve

Watch the Message

Christmas Eve 2023

Matthew 1:18-23

The thing about life is that we take good things, and because of how we use them, it creates a mess in our lives. The challenge is: how do we get out of the mess? This week, we will discuss how Jesus stepped into the mess you seek to escape—He is with us.

1. What is your favorite Christmas tradition? What makes it special for you?

2. Read Matthew 1:18-23. What was the mess that Mary and Joseph found themselves in? How was Joseph planning on dealing with the mess? What changed Joseph’s mind?

3. Immanuel means ‘God is with us.’ Can you share how this has impacted your life?

4. Life is messy. Can you share a time when you found yourself in the middle of a colossal mess? How did you get out of it?

5. Sin is when we choose to take the good that God has given us and go our own way with it... without God. We always face a consequence every time we sin. The only way out of the mess is by inviting Jesus to step in and take us out of it. If a friend or family member came to you in the midst of a mess, how would you advise them to get out of it?

6. Read Hebrews 4:15-16 (NLT). “Jesus understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” In Jesus, we have a Savior who is intimately acquainted with our struggles. He experienced temptation, rejection, sorrow, and even the agony of the cross. He understands our weaknesses and is with us in every challenge we face. He is with you because he knows what it is like, he is able to provide you exactly what you need when you need it.

-Take some time as a group to pray and thank God for a Savior who stepped into our messy lives. Pray that you would submit all the areas of your life to him and seek the deliverance that He offers.
