James 4:8

1. This weekend Pastor Tim shared how God is in community within the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). As His image bearers, He created us to live in the context of community, too. How has participating in community through weekend worship experiences been an encouragement for you?

2. Read James 4:8. Share a time in your life when you have experienced God’s presence in greater ways as you have taken steps to pursue Him.

3. Read Psalms 119:28-29. Pastor Tim stated that we lie to ourselves when we believe we do not need God’s instructions to act in His will. Have you experienced a time when you attempted to handle things on your own rather than relying on God’s Word to guide your actions? In hindsight, do you think going to Scripture as a source of wisdom would result in a more beneficial outcome?

4. Read Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. Why do you think when we give up meeting together, we tend to start back towards selfish desires? What are the benefits of consistently being encouraged by other Christ-followers?

5. What is significant about the fact that iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17)? What does that principal imply about the need for believers to seek counsel and encouragement from others who are submitted to following Jesus?

6. Pastor Tim challenged us to commit to memorizing Scripture throughout our 40 Days journey toward Easter. How might memorizing Scripture be a help to you? How do you feel about this challenge?

7. How can fasting and prayer result in a more intimate relationship with Christ?

End group by spending time in prayer and preparation for what God wants to do in and through you. As a group, commit to participate in weekend services, read the daily devotions, join in weekly with your small group, memorize each Scripture, and sacrifice something. Ask Jesus to move powerfully in your life over the next 40 Days and to allow you to see others whom you can invite on the journey with you.
