Journey Summer 22 – Part 8

It can be challenging to trust God both in times that are going well and in the middle of trials. What are some of the unique difficulties you face in trusting Jesus when life is going really well? What are the unique challenges in trusting Jesus when things are falling apart?

Read Philippians 4:10-12. Paul says he has discovered a secret to being fulfilled and content whether times are going well or when they are really terrible. What was this secret mentioned in the final verse?

Read Jeremiah 17:5-6. How does Jeremiah describe life when we are trusting in something or someone other than God?

Have you ever experienced life this way? What are some of the “shrubby” responses that come up in your life when you are trusting in things other than Jesus for strength and fulfillment?

Read Jeremiah 17:7-8. How does Jeremiah describe life when we trust in Jesus for our strength? Have you ever experienced this kind of life even when you were going through a tough circumstance?

What are some of the things you are facing right now that would be like the Heat and Drought in this passage?

Read Philippians 4:8. How do our thoughts direct our heart toward or away from trusting Jesus? What does it look like in your life to choose to focus your thoughts on the goodness of God?

Read Philippians 4:9. How does obeying the things God has taught us lead to peace in our daily life? How does that work?

What “Heat” or “Drought” are you facing in your life this week? Would you say you are trusting in Jesus or in something else with that circumstance? How can this group pray for you and encourage you this week?
