Rhythms • Part 6
Watch the Message
Hearing God’s voice should be normal for the believer. If you’re not hearing God, who are you hearing? One of the greatest insights you can learn in life is how to hear from God. It doesn’t come naturally; you must train your ear to hear. What you will discover is that God wants to talk, and He wants to speak to those that are willing to listen. This week we are going to talk about the rhythm of listening.
- 1. God is always speaking to us and is trying to get our attention. Hearing God is less about when He speaks and more about our position to receive it. How do you think we can position ourselves to be ready to listen?
- 2. Read 2 Timothy 3:16–17 and Hebrews 4:12. Scripture is not just a book of information; it is the very words of God. You can know God desires to speak to you because you have in your possession His voice throughout the Bible. How have you seen God’s Word get lost in our fast-paced, information-overloaded world?
- 3. How do you hear the voice of God? Pastor James shared with us Four Keys to Hearing God’s Voice. – Trust Him to Speak
- 4. Read John 16:13. If you want to hear from God, it starts here. You must trust that He really wants to speak to you. If you want to hear God, you're going to have to set a value on hearing God. You're going to have to value His voice and trust that God can speak and wants to speak. How do you feel about the idea that He actually wants to speak to you? What can you change in your life to put a greater value on God’s Word? –Go Back to His Word
- Read John 10:27. Hearing God speak is a blessing we receive as His children but notice that it comes as we follow Him. To follow Christ is to lean in and seek Him, to get still with Him, and allow Him to lead us. What is the difference between HEARING God’s Word and FOLLOWING it? – Wait to Encounter His Presence
- When you come to His word, you come to enter His presence. You don’t want just an answer, you want Him. You don’t just want insights, you want Him. You want Him to speak directly to you. What aspects of your life is more important than being still in God’s presence? What can you eliminate from your life to spend more time in God’s presence? – Live Out His Word
- Read 1 Samuel 3:19. What allowed Samuel to hear from God was his response, “Speak, I will listen.” He made himself available for God to speak. When he said, "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening," it created access for God's work to come to him and through him. He was surrendering to God and allowing His word to come into his life to change him and transform him. How can your group encourage each other to start your quiet time each day by saying, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening”?
