When You Feel Like You Don’t Have Enough… Jesus Did What?
John 6:1-14
Have you ever been in a place where what you have just done doesn’t seem like enough? I know I have. You almost have enough time. Almost enough peace. Almost enough to pay the bill. It’s not impossible—but it’s close. And in that tight space, the pressure builds. Anxiety creeps in. And if you’re like me, you’ve heard that voice whisper, “If you were better—stronger—this wouldn’t be so hard.” This week we will explore the question: What do you do when what you have just isn’t enough?
- If you could instantly multiply any resource in your life (time, money, energy, etc.), what would it be and why?
- Read John 6:5-6. Jesus already knew the answer. He already had the miracle lined up. But He still asked the question. Why do you think Jesus asked Philip where they could buy bread, even though He already knew what He was going to do?
- Read John 6:8-9. What does Andrew’s response about the boy’s lunch reveal about how we often view our own resources?
- Pastor James said, “Faith doesn’t grow in surplus—it grows in the stretch.” What does that mean to you personally?
- Read John 6:10-13. What does the gathering of leftovers teach us about God’s provision and stewardship?
- Read 2 Corinthians 12:9. What does it mean that God’s power is “made perfect in weakness”? How does the resurrection of Jesus reinforce this idea?
- Paul quoted Jesus when he said, “My grace is sufficient for you.” How can the resurrection of Christ be seen as the ultimate proof of God’s sufficient grace?
- Have you ever experienced a moment when your weakness led to God’s strength being revealed? How did the truth of the resurrection speak into that situation?
- Pastor James said, “Thank Him Like It’s Already Done”– Jesus gave thanks before the food multiplied. Gratitude isn’t a response to provision—it’s the release that activates it. How can you practice gratitude even when your situation still looks like lack?
- Pastor James also said, “Jesus doesn’t multiply what you manage. He multiplies what you surrender.” What’s one area of your life where you need to stop managing and start surrendering?
- Read John 6:28-29: “They replied, ‘We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?’ Jesus told them, ‘This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.’” (NLT)
That’s it. Not hustle. Not perform. Not strive. Just trust Him enough to give what you’ve got. So here’s the prayer: “God, I don’t have enough patience—but I trust You with the patience I do have. God, I don’t feel strong, but I give You the strength I do have. God, I feel powerless over this addiction, but I surrender the little power I have and believe You will meet me there. God, I don’t have enough money, but I’m giving You what I do have, believing You’ll provide.”
This week, identify one area where you feel lacking. Each day, spend a few minutes thanking God for His provision in that area, even if you don’t see results yet. Gratitude before the miracle is faith in motion.
