Have you ever wondered why God doesn’t just let us stay comfortable once we’ve made that first step of faith? Why does He keep calling us to move forward, to take new steps, to embrace bigger challenges? The answer lies in understanding what it truly means to be the church.

The Greatest Question You Must Answer

When Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” He was asking the most important question anyone will ever face. Peter’s response was profound: “You are the Messiah, the son of the living God.” This wasn’t just head knowledge – it was a declaration of faith that would change everything.

But here’s what’s remarkable: Jesus didn’t stop there. He didn’t say, “Great job, Peter! Now you can relax for the rest of your life.” Instead, He immediately launched Peter into his destiny and purpose.

What Does It Really Mean to Be the Church?

Jesus responded to Peter’s confession with these powerful words: “I will build my church.” But the word He used – “ecclesia” – wasn’t even a religious term at the time. It simply meant a gathering of people under authority with a purpose.

The Church Is Not a Building

Jesus never referred to church as a building or a place you go to. The church is a people who are sent out. We’re not called to be a social club that meets once a week. We’re called to be a movement, and movements move.

When Romans conquered cities, they would establish an “ecclesia” – a group of Romans who would bring Rome to wherever they were stationed. Jesus used this same concept: when believers gather, we bring heaven to earth wherever we step foot.

You Have Been Given Keys to the Kingdom

Jesus told His disciples, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” Keys represent authority, access, and responsibility. This means you have the power to:

Open the gates of heaven

Shut the gates of hell from influencing earth

Unleash heaven on earth wherever you go

The Battle Against Gates of Destruction

We’re in a spiritual battle, and the enemy tries to establish “gates” – access points for destruction in our lives, families, neighborhoods, and communities. But when the church shows up, we have the authority to shut those gates and bring God’s kingdom instead.

How Do We Unleash Heaven on Earth?

The mission is simple: everyone helping someone take steps to follow Jesus. This happens in three key ways:

Help People Connect to Christ

Every time you invite someone to church, you’re bringing heaven into that relationship. A simple invitation can be the catalyst that changes someone’s eternal destiny.

Help People Connect to Community

People need to know they’re loved and not alone. When we serve in food pantries, welcome newcomers, or create environments where people feel seen and valued, we’re demonstrating God’s love in tangible ways.

Help People Connect to Their Calling

Whether you’re parking cars, serving in children’s ministry, leading a life group, or helping in the pantry, you’re helping others discover their purpose and calling in God’s kingdom.

But I Don’t Feel Qualified

This is where the enemy loves to lie to us. He whispers that we’re too broken, too weak, or too ordinary to make a difference. But Jesus said, “I will build my church.” The weight doesn’t rest on your ability – it rests on His power.

You Have Been Anointed

When Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me… therefore YOU go,” He was speaking to imperfect people who had failed Him. Yet He chose to work through them, just as He chooses to work through you.

The moment you receive Christ, you receive the presence and power of the living God. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead now lives within you. You have been anointed with power to accomplish the mission.

As You Go, God Goes

The word “go” in the Great Commission literally means “as you go.” You don’t need to pack your bags or change your zip code. God wants to use you right where you are – at work, at school, in your neighborhood, with your family.

Every step of obedience becomes a doorway for God’s power. Every campus visit, every serve day, every invitation allows heaven to move through your faith.

Why We Plant Churches in Communities

Rather than building bigger buildings and asking everyone to come to us, we believe in taking the church to the communities where people live, work, and play. We want to be a church that’s not only in the community but for the community.

When the church shows up in a community, things change. Schools see improvements. Violence decreases. Hope increases. This isn’t coincidence – it’s what happens when heaven invades earth through God’s people.

The Time to Move Is Now

God has us at a crossroads. We can choose to stay comfortable where we are, or we can step into the greater things He has planned. The same God who moved then is the same God who moves now.

Every great move of God requires ordinary people to take extraordinary steps of faith. The question isn’t whether you’re qualified – it’s whether you’re willing to let God work through you.
