God created you to hear His voice—not just to know about Him, but to walk in a personal, ongoing relationship with Him. The same voice that called you to salvation still speaks today, inviting you to trust and follow Him daily. This week, we will discuss how the voice of the Holy Spirit wants to lead you through every decision, every struggle, every season.
- Hearing and trusting the voice of the Holy Spirit is an essential part of our relationship with God. What stood out to you in this week’s message?
- Think about a time when you were completely lost in an unfamiliar place. How did you find your way? What was most helpful to you in that situation—a map, a guide, someone’s directions, or something else? How did it feel when you finally knew where you were going?
- The sermon describes four ways the Holy Spirit speaks to us: through Scripture, through promptings, through godly people, and through shifts in our story. Which of these resonated with you most, and why?
- Read John 16:7-13 together. What specific promises does Jesus make about the Holy Spirit in these verses? What will the Spirit do for believers?
- Pastor James describes the Holy Spirit as a guide rather than a GPS or a controller. What’s the difference between these approaches? Why is the concept of guidance so important to our relationship with God?
- In the sermon, Pastor James says, “The Holy Spirit doesn’t just hand you a set of instructions and walk away, nor does He take over the wheel and make every decision for you like a robot operator.” How does this help clarify the way the Spirit works in our lives?
- Read John 14:26. Notice the word ‘remind.’ Where do we find the words of Jesus? The Holy Spirit will always speak in agreement with the Word. So here’s the powerful truth: The Holy Spirit brings Scripture to life so Jesus can keep speaking to you. When you read the Bible, talk to the Holy Spirit. Ask questions like:
“Holy Spirit, what do You want to say to me through this verse?”
“Holy Spirit, what’s the deeper truth here?”
“Holy Spirit, how do I apply this right now in my situation?”
- Read Psalm 119:105, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
Now notice: it doesn’t say that the Scriptures are a floodlight that reveals the whole path for the rest of your life. It says it’s a lamp.
What is this verse saying about how God directs us through His Word?
- The sermon mentions that “one of the biggest roadblocks to hearing God is anxiety over getting it ‘right.'” Do you relate to this? What makes it challenging for you personally to recognize God’s voice in your life?
- Think about a time when you felt a prompting that you “couldn’t shake.” How did you know it was from the Holy Spirit? What happened when you followed (or didn’t follow) that prompting?
- Read Romans 8:28. Pastor James said, “When your story feels disjointed, disqualified, or disrupted, it’s not the end. It’s actually the place where the Spirit begins to write something new.” Is there an area of your life that currently feels disjointed or disrupted? How might the Holy Spirit be working in that situation?
- Read Isaiah 30:21. You learn to listen—not just for answers, but for alignment. The Spirit may not always give you clarity, but He will always offer companionship. You learn to listen—not just for answers, but for alignment. The Spirit may not always give you clarity, but He will always offer companionship. Ask questions like:
“Holy Spirit, what are You trying to form in me through this?”
“What shift are You preparing me for that I can’t yet see?”
“Is this confusion a space where You want to speak?”
“Holy Spirit, where are you guiding me through this?”
CHALLENGE: Choose one specific time each day this week to intentionally quiet yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Start with 5-10 minutes of reading Scripture, then ask, “Holy Spirit, what do you want to say to me through this verse?” Sit quietly and write down everything that comes to your mind.
