Being In God’s Timing Produces Peace
Ecclesiastes 3:9 – Pastor Billy Island
Scripture clearly shows that God’s timing is perfect—even if we can’t see the full extent of His work, He has established a clear, beautiful order in all of life’s seasons. By acknowledging our shared burden, embracing the gifts of labor, and surrendering to God’s sovereign plan, we learn to enjoy the present while trusting that His final decisions are final. This week, we will discuss how living in this trust, being sensitive and confident in God’s sovereignty, brings lasting peace that surpasses the anxiety of waiting.
- If you could control time for one day (pause it, speed it up, slow it down, etc.), what would you do with that power and why?
- Read Ecclesiastes 3:9-15. What phrase or idea stands out to you most and why?
- The sermon discusses how God “has made everything beautiful for its own time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). What’s an example you’ve seen in your life or someone else’s where something became “beautiful” only in the right timing?
- Read Ecclesiastes 3:9-10. Solomon questions what people get for their hard work and mentions a “burden God has placed on us all.” What do you think this burden is referring to? In what ways have you experienced God’s burden—whether it’s responsibility, purpose, or trials?
- Read Ecclesiastes 3:10‑11: “He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work.” What does it mean to have “eternity in the heart” while still being limited?
- Pastor Billy outlined three responses to God’s sovereignty: being sensitive to it, surrendering to it, and being sure of it. How would you explain each of these concepts in your own words?
- Read Ecclesiastes 3:12-13. This passage talks about being happy and enjoying the fruits of our labor as “gifts from God.” What are some gifts from God that you might be taking for granted or not fully enjoying? Do you think “gifts from God” include the natural rewards we get from our work, or do they refer to more spiritual blessings?
- Read Ecclesiastes 3:14: “I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it.” What does “final” mean in relation to God’s sovereignty? How does this assurance impact your anxiety or doubt in moments of uncertainty?
- The sermon concludes that “being locked in on God & His timing creates peace.” When have you experienced this peace by trusting God’s timing? When has impatience robbed you of peace?
- Describe a moment when you felt truly “locked in” on God’s timing.
- How can you help others who are struggling to “wait” or trust God’s schedule?
